The crown of thorns of Jesus, Gerard van Honthorst, ca. 1622
For his execution, Roman soldiers Christ printed a crown woven from thorny branches on his head, put on a cloak and mocked him. He's the king of the Jews, isn't he? The scene is dramatically illuminated by a torch, holding the boy on the left. Honthorst probably made his painting for a Roman Catholic shelter church in Amsterdam.
