Harley-Davidson is an American motorbike manufacturer founded in 1903 by William S. Harley, Arthur Davidson, Walter Davidson, and William A. Davidson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company began as a small operation building motorbikes out of a wooden shed, but quickly grew in popularity and success. The first Harley-Davidson motorbike was built in 1904, and featured a single-cylinder engine and a belt drive. The company's early motorbikes were primarily used for transportation, but soon became popular for racing as well. In 1907, Harley-Davidson introduced its first V-twin engine, which became the company's signature powerplant.Throughout the 1910s and 1920s, Harley-Davidson continued to innovate and improve its motorbikes, introducing new models and features such as the "Silent Gray Fellow" engine and the "Teardrop" gas tank. The company also began exporting motorbikes to other countries, and by 1913, Harley-Davidson was the largest motorbike manufacturer in the world. During World War II, Harley-Davidson produced motorbikes for the military, and after the war, the company introduced new models such as the "Hydra-Glide" and the "Sportster." In the 1960s, the company introduced the "Electra Glide," which featured an electric starter and became one of the company's most popular models. In the decades that followed, Harley-Davidson continued to release new models and updates, and it also expanded its product line to include clothing, accessories, and other items. Today, Harley-Davidson remains one of the most recognisable and respected motorbike brands in the world, known for its powerful engines, distinctive styling, and dedicated fanbase.
