This abstract, surreal photograph shows a profound transformation in which three-dimensional reality becomes a flat, two-dimensional image through the use of artificial reflectors. The reflectors capture the light and shapes of the original scene, mirroring them and creating an almost dematerialised representation. What once had depth and structure is compressed onto an image surface that has an alien, almost illusory quality.
The shapes and lines that originally existed in space now appear as floating, distorted silhouettes. The reflections make them appear delimited, their dimensions are dissolved and the eye loses its orientation between foreground and background. The picture seems to exist in a limbo between the perception of reality and illusion.
Colours could be reduced or abstracted, perhaps grey and black tones dominate, giving the work a melancholic, dreamy mood. The picture appears both clear and opaque, as if it is open and closed at the same time. The reflections create a play of light and shadow that intensifies the illusionary quality and lends the picture a dynamic tension.
This transformation from 3D to 2D challenges the viewer to question the usual laws of perspective and spatial perception and to lose themselves in a surreal space that blurs the boundaries between reality and abstraction, not only visually but also conceptually.
