The picture shows Mt. Watzmann from its lesser-known western side in the evening light. The Kleine Watzmann can also still be seen, on the far left, the summit still just in the sun, as well as the Watzmannhaus in front of it. The three peaks of the Watzmann, Hocheck, Mittelspitze and Südspitze, over which the famous Watzmann crossing leads, one of the great mountain tours in the Berchtesgaden Alps, can also be clearly recognised.
The atmosphere was very special that evening. After a mixed day, the weather improved towards the evening, but there were still clouds on the mountain, which gives this picture a special aura. It emphasises the high alpine character of this impressive mountain, the size of which unfortunately no picture in the world can really capture. You have to stand at the foot of the mountain yourself to realise how big it is. And how small we humans are.
The picture awakens a longing in every mountaineer: what would it be like to stand up there right now? In the evening light, the other climbers have long left, all alone on the summit, the clouds below me, the valley with its everyday worries much further down. A cool evening breeze, the air is clear and it's quiet. Completely silent. Only an occasional jackdaw screeches, which only intensifies the feeling of loneliness. The sunlight is intense and warms the soul more than the skin. These are the moments you never forget as a mountaineer.
