About "The Vespa scooter is pure Italian"

About the artwork

There is nothing more Italian than a scooter, and of course a Vespa two-stroke. Not electric, no a real crackling two-stroke. And preferably one that is over 30 years old. The Vespa comes from the Piaggio factories. Piaggio is the original aircraft factory that was no longer allowed to make aircraft due to collaboration with the Germans. Piaggio therefore turned to manufacturing scooters. To produce the first scooters, many aircraft parts were used. For instance, the nose wheel of the earlier aircraft was used for the front wheel of the Vespa. The engine was a modified starter motor. The name Vespa means wasp, and if you have ever been involved in Italian traffic you will understand why. Italians apparently still love their Vespa because you regularly come across whole groups of crackling Vespas. Clearly, for the Italians, the Vespa is something to be proud of.
