The Story of Griselda, Part III: Reunion, Master of the Story of Griselda
This painting is the third part of a set of works illustrating the last story of Boccaccio's 'Decameron'. They may have been let into the wainscoting of a room.
The scene shows the marquis visiting Griselda at her father's house and instructing her to sweep his house for his supposed second marriage. Her children then arrive (unrecognised since she thought they had been killed), and the marquis finally reveals to Griselda that her trials were invented to test her obedience.
