The Story of Griselda, Part I: Marriage, Master of the Story of Griselda
This painting is the first part of a set of works illustrating the last story of Boccaccio's 'Decameron'. They may have been let into the wainscoting of a room.
The first scene shows the marquis hunting and meets his chosen bride Griselda, a poor girl. He visits her father's house and announces that he will marry Griselda on the condition of her absolute obedience. He leads her away to exchange her old clothes for rich ones and is shown marrying the marquis.
