This surrealist work grew out of my interest in music and birds. A green woodpecker was chosen because of the drumming that woodpeckers do. When I walk in the park, I regularly hear that beautiful warm woody sound. However, the green woodpecker hardly ever rumbles, but it laughs like the best of them. When it flies away you can hear its call, which sounds like it is laughing at you. It is therefore also called the laughing woodpecker. Because of this cheerful character, I put him behind a drum kit so he can practice his drumming technique a bit. Furthermore, the green woodpecker has a warm colour that reminds me of the forest and the wood of a drum kit.
