About ‘The Mirror; An Ode to Feminine Beauty’ by Dirk Lahuis

In a world often dominated by colour and speed, this image invites us to slow down. The monochrome aesthetic immediately evokes a sense of deep nostalgia, as if we were glancing at a forgotten negative from the early 20th century. The black-and-white tones soften reality and lift the scene to a dreamy, almost abstract level.

The composition is a play of frames. The heavy, theatrical draperies of the four-poster bed and the suggestion of the classical mirror frame embrace the subject. They create an intimate stage on which the female silhouette takes centre stage. As the face is hidden from view, the image loses its specific identity and gains universality. It is no longer a portrait of one person, but a study of form, light and the pure aesthetics of the body.

This anonymity creates a safe distance; we are not intruders in a private moment, but spectators of an artistic expression. The image balances on the border of vulnerability and strength, caught in a timeless silence that makes the modern viewer forget for a moment what year we actually live in.

Later, I could afford a new camera, and it became a Pentax K1000. I dreamed of a Contax, a Canon AE-1 or a Hasselblad, but those were out of my reach. What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
