The Azores are ideally suited to take Milky Way photos in clear skies and new moon. It is one of the few places in the western world where light pollution is still minimal. In this photo, the Milky Way appears to rise from the Atlantic Ocean. The countless numbers of stars that are especially concentrated in a side arm of our spiral nebula make you feel insignificant and many worries therefore fall away. An absolute mindfulness moment. Do bring a torch because you literally cannot see your hand in front of your face and the lava rocks are dangerous
