The Antwerp skyline just before sunrise I | Urban photography by Daan Duvillier | Atmospheric cityscape & landscape prints

The city holds its breath for a moment. The night is still palpable, but the first light is already making a tentative appearance. Soft shades of pink and blue slowly sweep across the horizon, whilst the clouds refract the morning light in a subtle play of colour. Antwerp is waking up, but does so in complete tranquillity.

In this photograph, Antwerp’s skyline unfolds in a layered composition of rooftops, towers and modern buildings. The warm glow of the approaching sunrise contrasts beautifully with the cool shadows of the city. The church towers stand out, rising gracefully above the cityscape, whilst cranes and contemporary architecture emphasise Antwerp’s dynamic character. The cloudy sky adds extra depth and a picturesque atmosphere, with soft transitions between light and dark.

This image fits perfectly in a living room where tranquillity and refinement take centre stage, but also comes into its own in a bedroom, office or hotel lobby. The soft colours and balanced interplay of lines bring a calm, urban elegance to any interior. A timeless cityscape that continues to captivate, day after day. --

This photo is part of a series: During March and April 2025, I was part of the film crew for the third season of Hidden Assets. Much of the filming took place in the former police station on the Oudaan in Antwerp. This location offered an exceptional view of the city. In the early morning, we were treated to beautiful sunrises on several occasions, with the skyline slowly revealing itself in soft, warm light. This series of photographs captures those unique moments: Antwerp in complete silence, just before and as the day dawns.
