The Age of Fossils – Traces of a Sunken World by AidasignArt

This panoramic artwork from the ‘ "Wild Essence" ’ series transports the viewer into the depths of Earth’s long-past history. Through the powerful language of this textured oil painting, prehistoric fossils come together to form a multi-layered composition that appears like a section cut from an ancient rock slab.

Striking ammonites stand out in the upper left and right sections of the painting. Their spiralling shells become symbols of the ceaseless passage of time and lend the composition a distinctive rhythmic order. In the lower right-hand section, two trilobites come into view – fascinating witnesses to a world that existed millions of years before the emergence of humankind.

Between these large forms, fossilised starfish appear, their delicate, five-rayed forms scattered across the entire picture plane. Finely structured plant and fern impressions run diagonally through the centre and along the left-hand edge of the picture. They appear like fragile memories of habitats long since vanished.

The expressive impasto technique lends the work an extraordinary tactile presence. Thickly applied layers of paint, relief-like textures and sculpturally prominent forms make the surface appear almost like real stone. Light and shadow sculpt the fossilised traces and reinforce the impression that fragments of a sunken world are emerging directly from the rock.

In this way, the painting becomes a poetic encounter with deep time – a quiet reminder that all life leaves its mark.
