Shirakawa-go: Thatched Roof Detail
This impressive work is a detail shot of a traditional Japanese farmhouse in the unique gasshō-zukuri (praying hands) style, found in the famous village of Shirakawa-go. The region, along with Gokayama, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for this rare and preserved architecture.
The work captures the rough and rustic texture of the thick, steep thatched roof, covered with a thin layer of moss, designed to withstand heavy snowfall. The weathered, dark wooden exterior of the house and the stone wall at its base exude the history of the region.
The background shows the mountainside in autumn colours, highlighting the rural setting and beauty of the Gifu landscape. This piece is perfect for the lover of Japanese history, architecture and rich, rustic textures.
Welcome to my shop, as you may have already seen, there are many works from Italy. I like to photograph there.
