About ‘Tangled branches’ by Dan Courtice

I have passed this location almost every day as I walk the dogs and was drawn to this spot - a hedgerow which is a mass of tangled branches. At first it looks unappealing, but there is a wild beauty about it that attracted me. I made sure to retain the clarity and sharpness of the photo, to capture as much detail of every branch and twig as possible. This image is worthy of a large scale reproduction to appreciate its natural beauty.

There is a texture added and techniques are used to give the photograph a painterly feel. The colours have been reduced slightly, adding a sense of age. Using my technique I am able to play with light and contrast, softening certain areas and strengthening others, which enables me to draw the viewers eye to a specific part of the image, very much like a painter would do. I aim to produce images that evoke a strong sense of nostalgia, and my subjects are almost always trees.
