At first glance, this picture is nothing special. A sea, an island and a blue sky. But if you look closely, there is more.
Another island can be vaguely seen in the distance. Hidden behind the proposed piece of land. That second island is too far away to reach today. But this first one that is within reach.
The clear waters of the Aegean Sea and the beautiful blue sky make the journey pleasant. The colour in the foreground betrays that the water is not deep. Perhaps you could swim there, or would there be a current?
As inviting as the sea and sky are, the island is messy. A cliff you can't get up against and a messy collection of buildings and trees. Fortunately, there are stairs and a sort of quay where you can go. To moor, swim or find a terrace for a delicious Greek meal.
The reality is that the island you see is the one I was on, Syros. An inlet of the island gave a nice suggestion of the next island. Nearby and unknown. It gave the chance to dream.
