I didn’t plan to stop here, but the way the sun was setting over the water caught my eye just as I was about to leave. The composition ended up being really simple—just a rough, wet pier leading into the waves—but sometimes that’s all it takes. I framed it low, letting the concrete path draw the eye into the horizon while the waves broke softly across it. The colors were shifting fast, too—soft orange and gold over the water, cool blues and greys everywhere else. It felt like a quiet moment between everything.
What I liked most was the texture: the movement in the water, the crashing wave lit from behind, and how the fading light played off the wet stone. The pier almost acts like an anchor for the eye, holding everything in place as the clouds drift and the sun drops lower.
This photo wasn’t planned, but those usually end up being the ones I keep returning to later.
