Sunrise over the rice terraces of Bali by Roith Fotografie

This impressive picture shows a picturesque sunrise over the world-famous rice terraces of Tegallalang on the Indonesian island of Bali. The first rays of the day break through the dense treetops of the neighbouring rainforest and bathe the landscape in a soft, golden light. The sun is low on the horizon and its rays dance across the sky in a star-like pattern, while scattered clouds lend structure to the morning sky.

The lush green rice terraces stretch in steps across the hilly landscape, creating a harmonious pattern with their even lines and shimmering water surfaces. Slender tropical palm trees rise up between the terraces, swaying gently in the morning breeze. The contrast between the intense green of the rice paddies and the bluish tone of the sky lends the picture a special depth and vibrancy.

The scenery appears almost untouched and peaceful - a moment of tranquillity before everyday life awakens in the surrounding villages. The picture conveys the close connection between the Balinese people and nature and traditional agriculture, which has characterised the landscape for centuries. A scenery that is famous not only for its scenic beauty, but also for its cultural significance.
