Sylvan Lake is one of five lakes in Custer State Park in the Black Hills in the US state of South Dakota. The lake was created in 1881 when Theodore Reder, the builder and owner of the Sylvan Lake Lodge, dammed Sunday Gulch Creek with a wall. The Sylvan Lake Water Dam, about 10 meters high, is located at the narrowest point of the surrounding mountains on the northwest side of the lake.
