Here, up in the hills of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) the summer solstice marks the longest day of the year and is traditionally the start of Summer in the UK.
The most exciting moment of Solstice is always the anticipation of light, sound and colour 30 minutes before the sun breaks over the horizon to mark the actual dawn.
At about 04.30 the birds are awake, the skylarks flying high above us and the wind gently whispering in the bushes below. The atmosphere all around us, pregnant awaiting the dawn of a new day.
