'Stimulating Coast': a modern painting of a peaceful spot in Positano, Italy by Dirk van der Ven

This vantage point high above the sea creates a sheltered space within the home where thoughts can wander freely.

Delicate charcoal lines add detail to a Mediterranean pine tree and the cacti standing on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the calm Mediterranean sea. This work moves away from the familiar, bustling tourist images of the Amalfi Coast and seeks out the tranquillity of a hidden spot. The sharp contrast between the cacti in the foreground and the infinite expanse of the sea stimulates the imagination.

A gentle interplay of light and colour dances across the cliffs. The bright azure and emerald green hues of the deep water roll calmly beneath the edge, with fleeting streaks creating a sharp sense of depth that makes the sea seem far below you. The olive and sage-green colours of the sketched vegetation in the foreground blend very naturally into the soft hues of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the background.

The organic, sketched textures lend the botanical elements a tangible depth that complements modern interiors with their own stylish character beautifully. Thanks to the refined combination of shades of green and blue, this eye-catching piece offers a welcome moment of tranquillity at work, providing a soothing addition that places mindfulness at the centre.
