At the thrift store, I came across a classic still life of a basket of fruit and decided to make a contemporary version of it, using a dead magpie and an egg timer.
Thrift stores are rife with, often moderately painted, cliché paintings of landscapes and still lifes. Wherever I can, I try to pimp up these forgotten works for the 21st century by adding contemporary elements.
In this case symbolically with the magpie (thief of other people's property) and the egg timer as a symbol of the passing and buying off of time.
Either way, this work can last another couple of centuries. With each sale I make a small change to the work, so you always have a unique Van Gogh in your home.
Although working as a lyrical chronicler, sometimes I see things that are not there; I photograph and edit them.
