Abandoned factory (Blast Furnace 5) in the Landschaftspark-Nord in Duisburg, Germany. The weathered and corroded metal of the silos of this steel plant enhances the raw, rugged industrial atmosphere: The beauty of heavy industry.
Nice that attention is being paid to industrial heritage. From an environmental and health point of view there is a lot of justified concern about heavy industry, but not until you are able to see these kinds of mighty factories, in all their rawness with your own eyes, can you imagine a tiny bit of what it was like when these blast furnaces were still working at full capacity. Even then you realize the gigantic size of the complex.
The thick rusty tubes and pipes between boilers, furnaces and silos, are not only corroded by erosion, but also show clear traces of the substances they transported within the steelworks. Work in these blast furnaces must have been hard.
Industrial heritage is above all educational. And fortunately sometimes photogenic.
Due to the high dynamic range, the colors splash from the image, especially the green moss, orange-red rust and blue steel define the contrasting colorful palette. It gives the style of Urbex photography.
The bird's eye view is because the photo was taken from the adjacent tall tower of this blast furnace.
