Statue of Liberty – Freedom in Flux

by AidasignArt

In this powerful work of art from the ‘Art for Offices’ series, the Statue of Liberty – Lady Liberty – is depicted in a pose that leans slightly to the right. The monumental figure stands fully upon her mighty plinth and, through this subtle rotation, takes on a new, more dynamic presence. She appears less static; rather, she seems to be casting her gaze over the world and carrying the idea of freedom into the future.

The depiction is inspired by Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty. Her imposing form appears to be cast entirely in bronze, whilst a vibrant green patina sweeps across the surface. Bronze, moss green, turquoise and deep shades of blue lend the figure a fascinating blend of historical dignity and modern expressiveness.

In her raised right hand, Lady Liberty holds the gilded torch – a shining symbol of hope, enlightenment and freedom. In her left hand she holds the Tabula ansata bearing the date of the American Declaration of Independence.

The exceptionally thick, impasto-like application of paint lends the entire work an almost sculptural quality. Distinct brushstrokes, layers of paint and organic transitions are reminiscent of aged metal, oxidation and a patina that has developed over decades.

The expressive background echoes this colour palette and transforms the pictorial space into a powerful cosmos of bronze, green, turquoise and deep blue – a timeless homage to freedom, self-determination and hope.
