St Martin's Church in Ypres always rises above the houses. You can go and look from wherever you like, it can be seen. Or it had to be that the clouds hang low, making the spire disappear in the mist.
It turned out to be a high-contrast photo with reasonable dark areas and an even grey sky.
Black and white was chosen to push back the different colours of the roofs.
The church tower is in the middle of the photo to show that although the houses can be seen more closely, the church is still the subject.
