About ‘Sri Lanka Fruit’ by Dirk Lahuis

A cry of colour
Amidst an environment of green and grey, one element immediately catches the eye. It is the flower of a banana tree, a large, heavy bud in a deep red, almost purple colour. The shape is fleshy and robust, hanging from a strong stem that defies gravity. In an environment dominated by leaves, lianas and shade, this red acts as a visual scream, a beacon of life and reproduction.

The flower is surrounded by the chaotic green of the jungle and the grey tones of trunks and stones, making the colour seem even more intense. The petals are about to open, or have just done so, to reveal the tiny bananas in the making. It is a detail shot that highlights the richness of Sri Lankan flora. It shows that beauty in the jungle is not always subtle; sometimes it is raw, fierce and unashamedly present. This image reminds the viewer that among the overwhelming grandeur of landscapes, the real wonders are often found in the small details, waiting to be discovered by a perceptive eye.

My passion for photography started early, around 1970. In the era of analogue photography, I bought a second-hand Agfa Iso Rapid Ic from my savings. Later, I could afford a new camera, and it became a Pentax K1000. I dreamed of a Contax, a Canon AE-1 or a Hasselblad, but those were out of my reach. What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
