Soft air

by Lauryn Walpole

In this work, you see fragile seed fluffs clinging to thin stems, captured in soft, cool light. The background is light and open, almost empty, making the fine structures of the fluffs extra visible. The hairs light up and seem to be about to come loose at any moment, as if the image is taking place just before movement. Only when you look closely do you notice the small details: the thread-like lines, the subtle shadows, the tension between holding on and disappearing. This image was created during a moment of stillness, when the wind seemed to pause for a moment. What attracted me was the vulnerability of the subject, but also its resilience. The fluff looks light and fragile, but remains connected to its origin despite everything. It is a brief moment in between, in which everything is still possible. The atmosphere is light and tranquil. The work feels cool and soft at the same time, without becoming distant. For me, this image is about letting go without haste. About the idea that something can linger, even if it is meant to disappear.
In an interior, this work brings space and breath. It works well in an environment where light and tranquillity are important. An image that does not come to the fore, but opens up the space and invites attentive viewing.
