The Sloten Mill is the name of a polder mill in the village of Sloten near Amsterdam. It is an oak, thatched, octagonal tower mill on a stone base. The mill is located on the Ringvaart of the Haarlemmermeerpolder and, together with the Akergemaal, drains the Western Garden Cities. The oldest windmill near Sloten, the Riekermolen from 1636, had to disappear in 1956 due to the Riekerpolder being excavated to enlarge the Nieuwe Meer and moved to the Kalfjeslaan near the Amstel. Sloten now has a new windmill. This mill was built in 1991 using a mill hull dating back to 1847 from Watergraafsmeer, which was placed on a new brick substructure. The cap and sails were also made new. The Sloten Mill is one of the few in Holland that is open to the public (almost) every day. The mill also has a lift and is used as a wedding venue for the Osdorp district.
