Silver-Green Botanical Painting: A Eucalyptus Branch in a Splendour of Colours by Surreal Media

In this work, a single eucalyptus branch climbs diagonally across the entire canvas, from the bottom left to the top right, adorned with round, silvery-green leaves, each revealing its own veins and texture. Each leaf is built up from thick, rhythmic layers of paint, with lighter edges that lend it a subtle sheen. Follow the stem closely and you’ll discover a thin, golden vein that cuts precisely across a single leaf — a small detail that’s easy to miss at first glance, but which lends the whole work an extra touch of warmth. Behind the branch, a stunning transition of colour unfolds: cool blue in the top left and bottom left, gradually blending into a soft yellow and orange in the centre, before ending on the right in deeper reds and purples, with even a hint of the rough canvas texture shimmering through.

The subject is a plant that many people recognise: the eucalyptus, with its distinctive round, silvery leaves. I wanted to combine that recognisability with a colour experience that goes in all directions — from cool to warm, from calm to energy — so that the work feels both familiar and surprising.

The atmosphere is lively, warm and tangible, and the emotions it evokes are joy, energy and wonder: colour that energises rather than calms. This is a digital artwork, but it has the appearance of thick, layered paint, with visible texture in every leaf and every splash of colour.

In an interior, this piece works beautifully in the living room or dining room, where the natural shape of the branch brings a sense of calm, whilst the colours in the background add just that touch of energy — also lovely in a bright kitchen or an office with plenty of natural light.
