Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.

About ‘Silence in the surf at Westkapelle’ by Jan Jongejan

Along the Westkapelle coast, these weathered wooden posts stand like silent sentinels in the surf. The long shutter speed blurs the water into a soft mist, leading the pole-head to the horizon like a timeless beacon. The green tarnish on the wood betrays the power of the sea and the passage of time.

This image was created during an overcast day when the grey sky and the smoothed water together evoked a hushed, almost meditative atmosphere. The composition was deliberately chosen to create calm and depth - an invitation to reflection.

For me, this work symbolises the balance between man and nature: how simple structures defy the power of the elements while adding beauty to the landscape. The pile head is not only a coastal defence, but also a poetic element that draws the viewer into a story of silence, erosion and eternity.

Sometime in 1980 Jan bought his first SLR camera and since that time a camera has always been at his fingertips. His varied work ranges from snapshots of people in his immediate surroundings to landscape, macro and bird photography. He is also the regular photographer of his wife's ballet school and thus regularly at work in the theater.
