About ‘Dikke Toren in frame of Zeeland Bridge’ by Jan Jongejan

On a clear day, from the shore of Noord-Beveland, I used a telephoto lens to capture this unique composition: the imposing Sint-Lievensmonstertoren of Zierikzee-also called the "Dikke Toren"-precisely centred within the triangular opening of one of the 54 pillars of the Zeeland Bridge. This modern concrete structure forms an unexpected frame for the tower's ancient silhouette, allowing old and new to meet in a visual dialogue.

The photo was taken under ideal weather conditions, revealing the details of the tower and the surrounding nature in razor-sharp detail. The combination of architectural contrasts, the play of lines and the deep perspective make this image a powerful statement about the connectedness of Zeeland: about water, time and technology.

This composition evokes not only wonder but also recognition among those who know the region. A favourite eye-catcher for lovers of Zeeland's landscapes and architecture.

Sometime in 1980 Jan bought his first SLR camera and since that time a camera has always been at his fingertips. His varied work ranges from snapshots of people in his immediate surroundings to landscape, macro and bird photography. He is also the regular photographer of his wife's ballet school and thus regularly at work in the theater.
