About ‘Silence in the Flow’ by Marcel de Jonge

This black-and-white photograph shows a row of weathered wooden posts stretching out from the sand into the sea in a rhythmic line. The posts, part of an old breakwater, appear steadfast and timeless, while the water around them is transformed into a soft mist by the use of a long exposure time. As a result, the waves are not captured as movement, but as a veil of tranquillity. This contrasts with the robust texture of the wood. On the left of the image, you can see subtle footprints in the sand, a human echo in an otherwise deserted landscape. The surf leaves a trail of foam, like the breath of the sea.

The inspiration for this work came during a walk along the coast, in a moment of reflection. The simplicity of the scene and the power of repetition in the composition evoked a sense of balance and tranquillity. By choosing black and white, the attention is directed entirely to form, rhythm and contrast. Without the distraction of colour. The atmosphere is contemplative and serene. The image invites you to slow down, to look and feel. It tells of steadfastness in motion, of tranquillity in change. For me, it symbolises the power of simplicity and the beauty of the moment between ebb and flow. Technically, this work is special because of the use of a long exposure time and the play with compositional lines. It fits beautifully into an interior that seeks tranquillity and depth.

More than thirty years later, life brought me back to the city where my heart has always remained. A special reunion with my childhood sweetheart brought me home again — and at the same time I also rediscovered my other great love: photography.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
