This artwork shows the Siege of Constantinople from the year 1453. I created this work because I am very interested in history. Because of this, I think there is almost no more special moment than the end of the Byzantine (Roman) empire and thus no better subject to make a work of art about.
The moon you see at the top of the work represents the hope that was still there for the Byzantines, and the cloud in front of it says that hope is waning. Eventually, Constantinople will fall. According to legend, this happened because a Byzantine soldier had accidentally left a gate open.
This artwork will fit nicely on a dark wall because of the dark colours, but on a light wall, this will be a nice piece because it will attract attention.
