I made two versions of this painting; this is the second, more refined design. In this work, I took an abstract but finer approach as in the first. The young woman is rendered both recognisably and artistically. The model is painted askew from behind, but her face is clearly visible from the side, creating an intriguing contrast between movement and tranquillity.
The work is mainly done in oil paint with highly visible brushstrokes and the palette knife subtly applied, where I have played with clear colour transitions and bold strokes to give depth and expression to the portrait. The colours used, including beige, ochre yellow, brown and blue, enhance the dreamy nature of the painting.
