From Amsterdam's Central Station, walk along the Damrak to Dam Square. On the left in the water are famous canal houses that have been frequently photographed but also look to the right. It is often too busy on this side with strolling tourists and bustling tourist shops and eateries to even look at the buildings themselves. But these canal houses are at least as beautiful and well worth a closer look.
To revive the atmosphere of old Amsterdam, this picture has been rendered in a retro look. Especially the billboard of the Eerste Hollandsche Levenserzekeringsbank from 1884 adds to the nostalgic look of this photo. Also note the hoisting beams on the premises that were used to carry heavy loads to the upper floors. The narrow buildings also tend to have very narrow staircases, making it almost impossible to get large furniture up the stairs.
