The Seychelles are an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. There are numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as Aldabra giant tortoises. The capital Victoria is located on Mahé.
The Inner Islands group (Seychelles Bank) comprises 32 islands with a total land area of 266 km². The largest islands are Mahé, Praslin, Silhouette and La Digue.
Outside the "Seychelles Bank", the archipelago of the Outer Islands extends over a sea area of 400,000 km². Only a few small settlements exist on the numerous coral islands due to the low altitude (highest points at 9 m above sea level) and the lack of drinking water.
