Self-portrait, Ferdinand Bol, ca. 1669
The structure of the frame is determined by lobe shapes, but these are largely hidden by realistic motifs from nature. Bol probably painted this self-portrait on the occasion of his second marriage, concluded in 1669. The list fits in nicely with that. The large sculpted sunflowers symbolise love. As a whole, the frame depicts the ripe, lush nature.
