About "Sejnene Orange"

by Peter Bulcke

About the artwork

In this work, the rough skin of weathered material captures the play of time, sun and silence. The cracked layers are reminiscent of parched earth after a long summer, over which the light from Sejnane - a village in northern Tunisia - glides softly orange. Each crack, each nuance of rust and shadow tells its own story of decay becoming beauty.

The inspiration came during my travels through Tunisia, where old walls and pottery pots bear the marks of generations of hands. The colours - orange, grey, and deep blue - refer to the landscape around Sejnane: warm, raw and honest.

"Sejnene Orange" evokes a sense of warmth and stillness. It is a reminder that beauty often arises from imperfection. That what breaks can also heal - not by hiding, but by remaining visible.

The photo was digitally manipulated to enhance the interplay between light, texture and shadow. This gives the surface an almost painterly character, as if the earth itself is whispering its story.

In an interior, this work brings a sense of depth and authenticity. It invites you to look, slow down, and appreciate what is not perfect but is real.
