The unfinished temple of Segesta was probably built by Elymians around 430/420 BC on a hill just outside the city, in a dominant position over the surrounding area. It is built in the Doric style, which is unusual for the Elymians.
Magical, ancient temples and stone ruins in Segesta on the southern Italian island of Sicily shine in the spring sunshine behind a magnificent yellow flower meadow. On my Easter trip in spring 2019, I took a hire car and my Nikon D90 with me to the magical ruins of the temples of Segesta. This fantastic excursion destination has been attracting numerous international visitors for many years. I hiked across lush, magnificent flower and plant meadows, hilly mountains and valleys to the marvellous and fairytale-like temple complex. The temples tower on a high mountain above the expansive plateau. From this vantage point, the human eye reaches out from old, abandoned medieval villages across the entire mountain world. Warm temperatures and inviting sunlight kept me walking and marvelling for kilometres. The fragrant flowers and wild herbs gave me enough vigour and stamina for an extended photo walk. The crisp blue tones of the sky together with the sea of flowers create a dreamlike ambience. This photo was taken in the late afternoon hours on 23 April 2019 with the NIKON D800. The beautiful island of Sicily offers every visitor a breathtaking landscape with unique views and leaves a powerful visual impression. The spring-like image motif is suitable for all living spaces and provides very special, creative inspiration.
