Nowhere is the interplay of light and dark more beautiful than along the water and that is why a walk along the sea is always different and never boring. The ever-changing weather, the tides, the rustling of the waves. the movement of the water, the tidal current ensure that there is always something to see but also that it is soothing, almost meditative.
This photo was taken along the dike between Den Helder and Huisduinen. It was a grey day with regular rain. But that greyness is not dullness as light continues to reflect in the water in which the wave heads rise white gleaming before breaking on the heavy dyke body. The sky above it that yet changes every time in tones of lighter and darker grey and the stones and pebbles in the massive dyke body wetly gleam in the light. Head in the wind along the dyke and back again with the wind at our backs.
