About the artwork

Scottish highlander on the plains,
executed in watercolor in the colors brown, gray, caramel, taupe & white

A Scottish highlander, looking out over the plain. The beautiful, large beast, gazing to the right of the painting. In the background, we see another abstract bush here and there in soft gray tones, in front of a warm white with caramel sky. The bulky beast with its beautiful, long locks, takes on a poetic look in this composition. Calm in atmosphere. Stately in composition. Gentle in execution.

The Scottish Highlander gets its name from its original habitat. In fact, the Scottish highlander is the original cattle of the western highlands of Scotland and the Hebrides. The highlander is a mostly reddish-brown breed of cattle with long hair and long horns. Yet they were all black in color until 1849.

Because they can graze outside all year round because of their thick coat, we also see these cattle frequently in Dutch nature and recreation areas. In 's-Hertogenbosch, I came across them routinely during my run. And that will sound familiar to many.

In addition, the cows are also just lovely to have around the house, especially with the upcoming winter and cold, these grazers feel like wonderful sources of warmth.
