Scottish Highlanders also known as Highland Cow are animals with large horns. They are believed to be descended from the Celtic cattle that were present in the British Isles 2000 BC.
They are 100 to 130 cm tall and they weigh around 400 to 600 kg. The colour of their fur varies from light through reddish-brown to black. In the picture, a young highlander. This picture was taken in Twente, Het witte veen near Buurse, Overijsel. This beautiful nature reserve is home to spoonbills, dragonflies and plenty of other animals in addition to Scottish highlanders. The sight of this relaxed animal with its tongue in its nose was more than worth a photo.
