Scottish Bloodline I

by Wim's Pastelart

In this monumental, vertical dry pastel work, artist Wim Cuppens’ distinctive style reaches an absolute visual climax. The painting, entitled * "Scottish Coo"*, offers a bold and highly dynamic interpretation of the iconic Scottish Highland cow, interwoven with the characteristic neon vibrations of his highly acclaimed Expressive Neon Realism.

The composition features a bold, asymmetrical framing in which the Highland cow’s distinctive head dominates the left-hand side of the canvas. The animal’s gentle, deep gaze provides a point of calm amidst a whirlwind of pure colour pigments. Here, Cuppens employs a masterful, texturally rich layering: the shaggy coat is built up from expressive, vertical chalk strokes in which traditional orange and warm ochre yellow spectacularly blend with flashes of electric blue, fiery red and intense purple. These bold neon accents extend into the imposing, upward-reaching horn and the hairy ear, creating a fabulous optical shimmer.

The right-hand side of the canvas opens out onto a mystical Scottish landscape. Two snow-capped mountains in deep shades of blue and turquoise rise on the horizon behind a heath-covered plateau. The sky above bursts into a sumptuous, soft palette of lilac, pastel blue and warm yellow. This layered, atmospheric background enhances the three-dimensional effect and creates a spectacular sense of depth in this unique vertical composition.

This masterpiece is a bold, luxurious and contemporary statement piece. Its powerful, narrow vertical format makes it ideally suited to transforming a prominent wall in a modern residential interior, a high-end stairwell or an exclusive corporate reception area into a veritable gallery.
