This small Roman Catholic church along the Maasdijk near the village of Heenweg in Westland was built in 1872-1873. The small church was built in Neo-Gothic style and features a roof truss.
Jonkheer A.J.A. van Rijckevorsel (1819-1892) was administrator of the Staelduin estate between 's-Gravenzande and Hoek van Holland. In order to develop a horticultural area and to reclaim land around the estate, more and more people came to live around Heenweg. Van Rijckevorsel had houses built for his tenants. In 1873 he built the Sint Lambertus church for his own account, so that the Catholics did not have to walk all the way to Naaldwijk.
Sint Lambertus church is a protected national monument.
