Cityscape of Rotterdam. The focus is on the White House, once Europe's tallest skyscraper. One of the few buildings in the city centre that survived the war. An example of Art Deco architecture. In the foreground, we can see some antique ships in the harbour and just a little of architect Piet Blom's cube houses can still be seen. Next to the White House are a number of old Rotterdam houses including the Marine Museum. The picture is complemented by a number of modern tower blocks on the Wine Harbour.
A cityscape that aptly depicts the dynamics of the city. Old and new form a harmonious whole. The use of a wide-angle lens makes the buildings dance together, as it were. The slightly overcast, blue sky gives the photo a summery character that fits well with the nostalgic atmosphere of the surroundings.
The photo exudes love for the city of Rotterdam.
