Together with the White House, Rotterdam's city hall is one of the few buildings that survived the bombing of 14 May 1940. The balcony is especially famous for the Feijenoord tributes, which are grandly honoured at this city hall when championships are won. In 1970, a quarter of a million fans lined the square on Coolsingel in front of the city hall to celebrate winning the European Cup 1 (precursor to champions league) with the players on the balcony.
