The St. Dionysius Church (also called the Rose Church) lies on a high spot. The church was built between the seventh and tenth centuries and was probably already placed on higher ground to protect it from the water. Over the centuries the building has been further raised. Nevertheless, the church suffered greatly from the water. The Maas river flowed close to the building, causing the tower to collapse around 1500. In 1515 a new tower was built. This tower was made of brick in contrast to the rest of the building.
