This is a work that is a-symmetrical in design, unlike most of my works before it. Those were essentially symmetrical.
My works arise partly on intuition and partly on rational considerations. Finding the photos together and then making them into a whole in Photoshop is a challenge every time. Parts of the photo's are used; the face, for example, is digitally cut out of a photo. The flamingo's were made more vivid with digital pencils and brushes; the original was rather overexposed and thus did not have much detail of its own.
Rose Bud has a cheerful look, which is mainly due to the pinkish and mint green colour scheme.
As a child, I could spend hours drawing at the kitchen table at home. Later in life, I enjoyed years of artistic training and although I learnt a lot, at some point I detached myself from wanting to conform to artistic dogma because it hindered me. I.. Read more…
