The Colosseum is the largest ancient amphitheatre in the world, seating up to 50,000 people to watch chariot races and gladiator fights.
Construction of the Colosseum in Rome was begun by Emperor Vespasian in 72 AD. It was opened in the year 80 with games lasting 100 days.
