Here you see a close-up of a black rhino, which is about 3 years old. This little girl lost her mum at a very young age and is now being cared for and protected by rangers in Mkomazi National Park in Tanzania. We went to visit her and so helped pay for her care. Later, when she is big enough, she will join a breeding programme to save rhinos from extinction.
The brown colour is not her fur, but has to do with the ground in Mkomazi, which is so brown and rusty. This is indeed a black rhino. She just likes to roll in the mud and it is rust-coloured. It also makes the photo kind of unique.
This photo is part of a trip I took in Tanzania in September 2024.
