Rest in the Medina: Slippers and mosaic tiles by Arthur van Iterson

This will instantly make you feel summery!

This atmospheric photo captures a simple but meaningful moment in an ancient medina. Two slippers, casually abandoned against a colourful background of mosaic tiles, evoke images of a hot day in Morocco. The sun casts its rays on the tiles, bringing the vibrant colours even more to life and creating a sense of serene calm and everyday beauty.

The inspiration for this picture came from my fascination with the small, often overlooked details of daily life in historic cities. While walking through a medina in Morocco, this scene, which tells a story of simplicity and culture, caught my eye. I wanted to capture this image to share the beauty of the everyday and the rich traditions of these places.

With this photograph, I try to convey an atmosphere of tranquillity, simplicity and cultural richness. The image exudes a combination of calm and vibrancy, making it a perfect complement to any interior looking for a touch of exotic charm and everyday elegance. Special for its unique combination of vibrant colours and the serene simplicity of the slippers, this picture tells a story of tradition, culture and the beauty of everyday life in the medina.
